When developing for Instant Action, Which of the GG platforms will GG prefer to be developed with: TGE, TGEA, TGB or TXB?

As we've mentioned previously, additional details will be announced in the near future, but we don't have anything specific to talk about right now.

Hopefully it will be TGE as TGEA would probably be too much for the majority of people who would play the games.
(hey, a little speculation is a good thing) :-)

TGB, TGE and TGEa do not as they stand have Webbrower stuff in them as they stand. And there has been no indication from anyone that there will be such a upgrade to those specific kits. If there is.. we will see. Bets anyone?

Ill bet money that it will be a modified TGB engine, that will be for sale under the IA label, rather then here. Personally i hope it will be TGE, but as Stephen and the other employees have repeatedly told us...Quote:

They'd be insane to start from scratch with something like this. So, if its actually _ready_ to roll as all indications seem to imply, my guess is that its based on a subset of TGEA. Anything else would be, well, a joke.

EDIT:
@Derek
Or some hybrid of TGE/TGEA to cut across the browser audience with variable hardware. Though the various stories have noted that it will target a more traditional hardcore audience than a casual one, so they may go with TGEA.

No way Gary! It's gonna be Opera. That way it will kill two birds with one stone. After all, Opera is the Wii browser. TorqueWii and IA...the Opera Initiative!EDIT:

I've played ThinkTanks in a browser before, and quite a long time ago, in fact. There's nothing stopping them from creating TGE or TGEA as an ActiveX control again. It's true that TGB can be ported so much more easily, but I wouldn't count the other engines out, especially if they want to do core games, as they've alluded to.

I would bet its a port of TXB running in the silverlight pluggin. (next version that supports both managed code (C#) and script.) You then get I.E., Firefox, Mac and a Linux version (Linux version in the works last time I checked on it)

Thats a pretty interesting speculation actually. Though I wouldn't put too much stock in it given that, well, Silverlight is still in its infancy. Then again, stranger things have happened.

TT wasnt playing in a browser - it was a faked browser game. It actually installed your game through the activeX and ran it. Wrote the same as a proof of concept.

Regardign 2d/3d. Well - if I recall the announcemt (got to check that one in a minute again), I seem to recall it saying 3d!! in a browser - not 2d.
Edit:
Quote from Josh "As far as differentiation goes... we're obviously not building Flash-like toy games here, or casual puzzles and bubble-poppers. We're talking FPSs, strategy, and the like."
Cant build FPS hard core games in 2D - so must be one of the 3d engines.

I do think that this is the right direction this time. We'll see...

I must admit, I have a hard time figuring out GarageGames management strategy. It seems like they are always announcing something new, while they have a plethora of unfinished products. Now this...? I do think that this is the right direction this time. We'll see...

I'm not sure why you brought up my recent blog here, but it is true. That is a project I've worked on in my own time and made a personal posting. The disclaimer was to help people differentiate between GarageGames work and something I've been toying with for a while...

@Gary - I've noticed that almost anything cool that comes out is made by a third party and not GG (TGB, Lighting Kit, the future tree pack, much of Constructor, ShowTool, etc).

Just bringing it up :-)
Honestly, I have no idea what GG are doing, but something like you've pictured there makes sense, even if that's not exactly what they've done

Thats some pretty impressive stuff there. Good luck with the bandwidth throttling though. It'll have your feed for breakfast; especially if anyone even _thinks_ of using that for real-time (e.g. fps games) games. Now you have input as well synchro to worry about.
