TGB or Torque X

by Ethan Edwards · in General Discussion · 09/22/2007 (3:19 pm) · 3 replies

I am a novice game developer trying to decide which language to use to create my games. I took a course in TGB over the summer and would like to continue creating games with it. I had already written some code for my first independent game during the 30 day trial period I used after the classes ended. I just recently heard about Torque X right before I was about to purchase TGB and decided to find out more about it. Which language is better for a novice 2d game developer? Also, since game design is purely a hobby for me, I don't see the need to pay $100 a year to develop games for the 360.

Ethan I was say stick with TGB get one project done and then make your choice. You will have a quicker dev cycle with TGB and wont need to worry about things that come with Torque X. I think at the hobby level having that instant gratification can be a very good thing and pull you in further. Just my thoughts

The small amount of code I've written is negligible as I spent most of the time creating animations. I already made a basic stealth game during the classes so I have an okay feel of the development process. The game I'm currently making I plan to spend most of the year working on and thus speed isn't really an issue as much as quality.

I think Donald makes a fantastic point. Plus, I have a feeling that this whole instantaction thing will have little to do with torquex
So, If you want to make money, i would think TGB is the place to be.
*** only assumptions. I have no idea what the plan with IA.com is. Bein browser based, I assume cross platform and in return rule out .net.
I may be wrong though
