3ds MAX to dif exporter

Hi - Has there been any progress on a MAX to dif exporter? I saw some discussion about it a while back and thought that someone had commented that an exporter might become available. Does anyone out there know how that's going? Thanks - Don

It probably will never happen. :D Although I have been working with Max making DIFs for nearly 9months now... I should maybe write a tutorial or something on the workflow / pipeline.... its long and nasty but it works....check out MINI #37 this is not a tut, but it does show the results....

On another note, my wife and I were in South Africa last May. We loved it. Saw Cape Town, the Garden Route, a little of JoBurg, and ended up in Kruger and Sabi-Sabi. The weather was record breaking cold when we were there, but we wouldn't trade it for anything.

Yeah South Africa is a beautiful country. U Should be here now, we are having our typical highveld weather, beautiful hot summer days and then a thundershower in the afternoon. :) Totally predictable. lol
Out of interest where are you situated?
On the topic of Max to DIF, I have began writing tutorials covering all sorts of Torque formats, one of which is our Max to DIF pipeline!!! It involves the use of Deled 3D Editor, which is a great tool and doesn't cost much at all!! Hope this helps!! :)

OK, I installed a copy of Deled 3D Editor and got your tuts. I'll play with them a little this weekend and see what kind of magic I can make. Thanks for all your help.
I also took a look at the Luma website. You guys do some really nice stuff!! It doesn't seem fair that someone can have so much fun and still get paid for it. My interest is a VR app for work, and I also do some digital modeling, reverse engineering, etc. as a fledgling business that I hope to grow.
My home base is Atlanta. We're supposed to be entering fall now, but it's been a hellishly hot summer and it doesn't seem to want to let go. Also one of the dryest on record. Hopefully some rain over the next few days.

Byder, did you work on the Mini game? great stuff. Have there been any issues you have had to face and overcome when using the 3DS to MAP route?

Thanks, yes I was part of the art team that worked on MINI#37...
To answer your question we have run up against loads of issues (not specifically in the 3DS to Map, but 3DMax to DIF)... probably a few of the worst problems would be Texture Coordinate Issues, Orphan Polygons, Brushes not aligning to each other, etc
After working with DIFs for nearly a year now I sorta have a mental 'do's and don'ts' list that I stick to and everything remains pretty stable... Orphan Polys still crop up now and again, but there are work arounds...
Are you having any specific issues?!

There's been various, all failed, attempts at converting mesh data to bsp brushes since the quake 1 days. None have worked particularly well. There's one very specific tool for making levels in max; "Game Level Builder" (GLB), but you have to use their tools to create the geometry, it doesn't work with arbitrary meshes.
It's easier, faster and more convenient to use a tool made specifically for the purpose of creating bsp style data.
