3D game programing all in one for 1.5?

by Zergcow · in Torque Developer Network · 09/15/2007 (1:43 pm) · 4 replies

Sorry but i have searched everywhere. is there a "3D Game Programing: All In One" book for the 1.5 engine? OR will the second edition (for the 1.4 torque engine) work for 1.5? Is the code much different? Also the biggest problem i have is finding info for the version i have. the developer network should be split into software AND THEN version so we can find up to date info for the specific software we are using.

I dont want to do much because i am an artist and just want it to show off my 3d models but at the same time i want it to be online so others can log in from wherever. Also i want painball guns with several colors you can pick up and change out the different color ammo that you have picked up. so naturally that is hard for me to do and i need some literature on it to help me. Finding it is 100 times harder than i thought it would be though and i dont want to buy a 50$ book for an outdated version of the software.

any help would be great thanks. (also am i posting this in the right fourm?)

Well, if u have purchased any version of the torque u should be able to view it from the "My Account" there is actually a difference in the cost, 1.5 is a ltl more expensive

I dont know the exact differences between 1.4 & 1.5 but I suppose that u can easily find that out in the forum BUT the scripting differences is almost NON meaning that u can use the same scripts on a l8t version with almost no edits (actually in some cases the spelling mistakes in the engine's script functions were not fixed to minimize the script changes while going from one version to another)

but since u'll be working on art mainly, I dont think it will make much of a difference if u were gona use either of them

The book comes with a working version for which it was written. You can directly apply all of that knowledge from that version to the current 1.5.2 engine. I do not believe the book covers the Lighting Kit, which was separate in 1.4 and integrated into 1.5.

Ok i was just checking to make sure there was not a book for 1.5 I think i will hold off on getting it though because i would rather have a book that deals directly with 1.5 so untill then i will just take my laptop to my bookstore and do it that way. Maybe it will have some interesting stuf that will make me want to buy it.

If it helps, I was very comfortable with "The Game Programmer's Guide to torque" I was also using 1.5
but I don't think that there is barely any difference one how to use TGE 1.4 or 1.5, the clear diff. is between 1.3 & 1.4, so if i were you I wouldn't count on finding a book that deals directly with 1.5 unless it was rather advanced OR had some advanced chapters that cover the new stuff that are not in 1.5 (but not very likely to happen i think)
