Tombraider character I completed

by Jonathan Rush · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 09/06/2007 (8:49 pm) · 13 replies

Hey guys - here is some of the character work I did for Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition. You may recognize some of the likenesses from the very first version of the game (1994)

The character concepts were done by Crystal Dynamics/Eidos. The modeling and texturing were done by myself...

It was a fun project to work on, and I hope I get the opportunity to work with Crystal Dynamics again in the future...

The knife and pistols being held were done by Crystal Dynamics

Um... Wow! That stuff is insane!

Edit: You may want to size your images down a wee bit, so they fit in the forum template better...

Very nice work. Looks like you hand-painted your textures, rather than using photosource. If it's ok to ask, what's your workflow like? Tools, general approach, etc.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Yeah, excellent work! Tomb Raider has always been a favorite of mine and I was happy to see the remake handled so professionally.

Hey thanks guys :)

Ethan - I say, 'the bigger the better!' :) Most of the image is showing off the detail that went in to the maps, as they are only 512's being displayed...

Aaron - Thanks - All the textures are hand-painted in Photoshop. There's a tutorial on my website that outlines my process for painting textures, although it is a couple years old by now:

N R Bharathae - It was a monumental team effort - glad you enjoyed the game :)

IF you guys get bored, I have more work on my webpage located here:

Wow. looks outstanding. just curious what are your rates to do a 5k poly model. no normal maps. just diffuse textures? or to create a character listed above?

Hi,

very nice work, did you make all the models and textures (not weapons) yourself?

Thanks guys :)

Anthony - I was responsible for the geo, UVs, textures, and skin weights. These characters ranged anywhere from 3,500 tris to 5,000 tris

Glad you like them!
