It would be cool if someone made a torque game with a fully fledged CGI intro movie.

You can incorporate theora videos into your GUI. I can't recall since it's been a while since I played it, but I think VIGIL had one. A lot of people are. There are a number of posts on the forums that deal with this, and looping. I don't know if there are many that have answered the looping without a hard-coded time, though.

does that help?

To answer your question blake i mean like some player walks through a trigger in a cave the all of a sudden it shows a cutscene, a dragon sleeping in the cave wakes up and roars(cave shakes too.)does that help?

It would be using the in-engine graphics and not a Full Motion Video, right? Well, you could look at the demo and camera paths for each section of the demo. Using that as a model, you could do what you mentioned. It is not as user friendly as you might like, but that's what I would recommend. A cinematic system to automate such things would be nice, but it is not included.

There is a render to texture resource in the resources section that would work for what you are talking about. Just setup your video to a "pause" state until someone triggers the play. I don't know if the resource works with 5+ as I haven't tried it, but did do a theora gui at startup that works.

Hmmmm thanx yeah. Hey what if i like did the whole movie in maya then export it to tge then make the trigger and make it switch to like a duplicate that i placed out of sight and make a camera that follows a path and script it to the mount piont in the model think that would work?

If you rendered the movie from Maya to a video format and converted it to Theora, you could play it in the GUI and not have to worry about in-engine cameras and paths and mount points.

If you get this working, please post how you did it. :)

Well, the demo has enough to work with a simple cut-scene camera. Dialogue is a bit trickier with the shifting cameras, at least on the fly. But the Theora GUI should work for pre-rendered movies as long as they are converted.

and the dialogue i got covered i made a sound record of it in a sound recorder to match the movie.
any ideas on the scripting part though?
Why isn't anyone posting on the gravitized solar system one?!

OK. Hey whats theora? Is it a special program for movies cuz i also wanna do movies in my biz.and the dialogue i got covered i made a sound record of it in a sound recorder to match the movie.

Theora is a cross-platform format. If you are used to AVI's, MP2's (DVD), MOV, or the like, then it's another format like them. It is not a program but a video format.

yeah i see what you mean if i change the format to theora then i can make it gui based.
That might work.(i think)

Oooooooooh why didn't you say that in english not computer language...(just joking)yeah i see what you mean if i change the format to theora then i can make it gui based.

There is also a forum thread about rendering on DIF faces. Do not know how difficult it is to get into 1.5.2, though. It also requires some C++ know-how.

Well thats your problem. I would stay the fuck away from cutscenes and such untill i at least have grasped the most basic concepts of programing(since you were not able to interpret the post about Theora corectly i dont think your quite there yet). And even then it would proably not be such an good idea. Here is a stupid metaphor describing your situiation: "dont try to run before you can walk". Make a silly test game or something.

Ted, that's uncalled for. He wants to learn. Modding the engine is a good way to learn. With every mistake he makes, he'll learn something new.

Im not trying to insult him. Im trying to make him understand that no one will teach c++ for him, he needs to learn it himself. "I have no c++ know how and id like to learn." pretty much states that he wants someones elses help on learning c++, which i know is impossible(except from maybe posting a good link or two, or recomending a book). And yes, a good way to learn stuff is to fail, but you wont get anything out at all from the error inputs if your not patient and actually try and understand what went wrong and why, and i get the feeling that he is rushing it. Besides i think its beter if he starts learning the script n such, before moving on to the source code. Maybe it was my use of the word "fuck" that made you think i wanted to insult him, but thats just my imature way of expressing myself, i did not mean it as to make the statement sharp. If Taslim feels insulted, i apologize right away here on this forum =)

Says who? so i'm not saying i don't have any programming experience but i'm not like someone who's really really good at it. i mean i have created some things but not like advanced stuff(Were you plastered? i mean saying the f word in forums with eleven year olds reading this?)

Like i said, if you feel insulted, then im sorry, because thats not what i intended. But i think its very imporant for you a game maker to admit to yourself that you have limits, you hurl yourself at everything at once and start with complex featurees which is primarly meant as polishing for ready to go games. I do not consider myself "really good", i dont even consider myself good, actually i consider myself bad, i just picked up TGE like 3 months ago, but in that time i have accumulated basic knowledge in c++, a full understanding of torque script and a general knowledge of how to apply diffrent featurees like mount point and such stuff. In one of your posts u state that you bought it for 9 months ago, and claim that you still have not got it yet. Why do you think that is? Aim lower! And then work yourself up. But like i said, i do in no way mean to insult you, its just a tip.

Do you want it to be an in-game scripted sequence? A full-motion video? An interactive cut-scene ala some of Resident Evil 4's scenes. Each one has different requirements.
