Fyrnaech project looking for members
by Martin Krantz · in Jobs · 08/12/2002 (2:05 am) · 15 replies
Hi everyone!
My name is Martin, and I'm the founder of the Fyrnaech project.
We are currently looking to add non-paid staff to the team.
If the game goes commercial, though, team-members will get paid a percentage of the salaries, based on the input of work.
We are looking for programmers, mappers, concept artists, musicians, modelers.
If you think you would fit into our company, please contact me at fyrnaech@hotmail.com. It would also be good if you could include some examples of what you have done previously.
We have enough writers at the moment, but if you think you are a really great writer, send me some of your work and I'll consider if we have use for you.
At the moment, we don't have a webpage, but we have staffmembers working on that, and hope to have it up and running within two weeks.
To find out more about the project, visit the "Fyrnaech" project here on Garage Games, or go to Krantz Enterprise (current name of the company).
Greetings, and good luck with all you do, even should it not be for Fyrnaech. :)
/Martin Krantz
Producer of Fyrnaech,
Founder of Krantz Enterprise
ps. Yes, I know the company name isn't the greatest in the world, but we prefer concentrating on making the games. The name might be changed later, but we might also team up with another, yet unnamed, game company.

The reason why I called it a company, is because it's in the "companies" section of GG. So I figured that was the right name for it. But if you say so, then I'll call it a dev. team instead.
Also, this was not meant to be a spam. I figured I had posted this thread in the wrong forum, so I put it here. I just haven't had the time to remove the old thread. That's it.
I'm trying to get a webpage running atm.
Yes, bottom line is that I'm a writer. I'm not good at programming and such, but I know enough to keep things running, and I'm also trying to learn more, reading as much as I can, whenever I can.

but I think you were a little to critical.... first off, theres nothing wrong with free sites... I have a crapy tripod site http://planbgames.tripod.com true it has banners, but it also has a lot of real content, that was kinda dumb to trash him on the fact that he didnt have any cash to waist on buying a bannerless site
and as for critisizing his creating this thread, I kinda do and dont agree, true this is junk and he is trashing up the forum.... but at least he's trying to get a team.... my only real regret is that I'm too cautious about pissing poeple off with my (possilby) crappy game, by bugging everyone in forums and help wanted ads
I wish you luck on your game, but I think you have a LONG ways to go, you dont really sound much like you know what your doing, and you cant really count on people who have skills you lack to flock to your game, your really going to have to be able to do pretty much everything yourself unless you want to pay people with real money (this is what I've noticed from making my game)
as a last note, I am looking for help as well (hehehe, just had to put this in ;) ) so if anyone came here looking for a good project to get into, one that is already well underway and has a bit more grown up and knowledgable leadership, then check out my site (I already put it up above somewhere), look at the game, if its something you want to help out with then your welcome to contact me at any time, my info's in my profile

hey ward, I certaintly understand your frustration.... newbies frustrate us all..... but you were kinda harsh on him, true nobody enjoys vague empty help wanted adds trashing up our forums, but at least he is trying to assemble a team and get started(althouhg I agree he should learn more first and get a demo of his game ready, or at least a site)but I think you were a little to critical.... first off, theres nothing wrong with free sites... More than TIPS it was looking like something to make him want to leave the game community! :o)
Personnaly, I think everything should go better if ppl wasn't spreading so much their skills in new project.
Everyone thinks he's got the BETTER idea of all the time by adding a different sniper zoom on CS-like game :o)
Try better to gather in bigger project.
Anyway that's right Martin, being leader with only writer skills looks hard, really hard!
Anyway good luck!

About getting trashed for money problems, if people do that, then bugger off.
I'm a student, so I hardly make 200 dollars a month, to get me by for the hole month, until it starts all over again. I don't have the money to spend, simple as that.
And don't go telling me I should cut some lawns or something like that. I study at two different colleges each semester, and I also travel around alot as stand-up comedian, plus I write for Chronos, so I do not have a lot of spare time to put into anything but this project.
I know I'm not the most experienced producer in the world, but I'm not a total newbie either. I have some experience from working on Valhalla Entertainment as department leader of the writing section.
The most important thing for my team is to get a website up and running, and get concept art done, and work out a complete backgroundstory (I'm very strict on that point), because we have a good shot at teaming up with Valhalla Entertainment, when Chronos is running more smoothly. And I know the guys on Chronos would probably jump at a shot to get to work on a game after Chronos, since we have a really good team and have a lot of fun while working.
Well, that's about it for now.

I didn't want to put this guy down.. i'm trying to HELP him here. I don't see how more polite I could've put what I had to say.
Sure there's nothing wrong with free servers. But I spend like 15 - 30$ on domain and hosting + mailboxes... and it paid off! So i'm just sharing my experience here, trying to help. But ok, I'll keep my mouth shut from now on.

You guys have to figure out this part:
100 dollars in US currency = 100 dollar value in the Us.
100 dollars in US currency = 1000 crowns in Swedish currency.
So I get 2000 a month, on which I should pay for food, books that cost around 400/book, and also have travel money so I can go on my tours. :)
You can be a bit blunt, but I've had worse. :)
It's not like I'm getting the same treatment as Martyn, right? :)

i nerver claimed he HAS to do that. I was giving tips.. speaking of experience. What's wrong with you people. The only part where I sound rude was when I said "SPAM" and even then, i'm not implying he is spamming. Ok, I saw his post on 2 different forums, i shouldn't have called it spamming.
So.. I should've said nothing... and this guy should try over and over trying to get some people interested. I just told him how he could create that interest. Only one of my tips involved some money (and it wasn't even much). Everyone who's accomplished creating a team by now will agree with most of my points. Jeezus christ, people, think before you post something. I really was NOT putting this guy down, or scaring him off.. just pointing out how he could have a better start in this community.
There seems to be a "flame-fobia" going on lately.. sad thing is helpfull posts get mixed up with flames.
so basically you say the same as some of my points.. but you are not rude? I think I put it in a more polite way.
Oh and Djag, about your post showing up with a wrong hour.. same happened to me.. screwed up one of my own threads becuase of it. Looks like someone ressetted the server time or something.
@Martin, sorry for highjacking your thread...

Anyways, my email is in my profile so drop me a line and I will set up a vhost on one of my systems.
PS, this is not something I do for charity so please don't spam my ass, because I know free makes the people want to buy. Just want to help a fellow Swede trying to get into the GG groove =)

Martin, contact me if you want some free hosting. It wont be 1 GBit/s for free ;) But it will do until your project is able to get on its feet. It will be bannerless, popup free, with sugar on top and fast enough. What you will have to pay for though, is registering a domain name.Anyways, my email is in my profile so drop me a line and I will set up a vhost on one of my systems.

www.50megs.com
provides free hosting, although they severely restrict the size of files you can host.
Alternatively, start a group at:
groups.yahoo.com
You get some free space, bookmarks, polls, calendars and a mailing list for project members. You can also store some screenshots there.

Actually, I have an account at www.t35.com, that seems rather good. You could always go there, and see if your host is better. There, I have unlimited space, and unlimited bandwidht there.

A good website is only a minimal factor in this, but it is usualy the first impression of a project and can easily make talented people, who would otherwise be willing to help you, turn away from your project. Frankly I find banner advertisments and the likes as a negative impact on the site as a whole.
The major difference I see is that you will not get as big a max capacity, nor am I ready to offer it ;)
But you will get a popup free hosting service, which t35 offers for a price. You will get the domain name you have registered, i.e www.mygame.com instead of mygame.t35.com. I will not put a 250 kb limit on your filesize either, but as stated earlier, free means don't abuse it ;)
And you will get direct contact with the admin of the box, might even be willing to take the support in Swedish =)
Finnishing up (I obviously have too little to do),
t35 seems like a decent service which will not rape your site and its appearance, but I offer you a great amount of freedom and control. I would also like to ask you to take Ward De Langhes tips for what they are, words from someone a little more experienced, however blunt they may be.

Well I am not out to compete with anyone, but what I wanted to help you achieve was only a small part of what might be a factor when catching the interest of potential team members. I want to thank you so much for your offer, but I have good experiences with t35.com previously. They are always quick on answering my emails. :)
And even though they don't have the supports in Swedish, I get by easily, since all I ever do is read and write in english, so it's rather like a second language to me.
Wait! It is a second language to me. *lol*
What I mean is, I hardly notice the difference anymore. I've found myself *thinking* in english at times, so I don't have a problem with the support-language. :)
Besides, they give quite detailed support. I've only good things to say about this company.
They will be able to host my name, once I buy one. I've asked them about that.
Besides, I have some previously terrible experiences with both swedish and english web-hosting companies. So when I've finally found one that is good, I won't be likely to change for a while.
But, still, thanks a lot for your offer. I appreciate it.
And about the last thing you said: I do take Ward's tips seriously. Those are great tips, but I figured I couldn't possibly wait with starting to find team members until I have done the stuff myself. And, believe it or not, I have managed to find some really good staff members already. Hopefully, it's the story as well as the game that draws them to a project. :)
But, like I said, I took Ward's tips seriously, and I don't mind getting tips. I might be somewhat of a newbie, but I'm not that new. I do have gaming experience since earlier, and I know what it takes to get a team together.
Anyways, thanks again for your offer, but at this time I'd rather stick with t35.com. Should I get problems, though, I'll probably come running. :)
It seems like you have a really nice company. ;)

Torque Owner Very Interactive Person
-First get the webpage online. Not some geoshitties site, but spend 15$ on a domain and find a bannerless host.
-Start building the game yourself. Show there has been put some effort into it. Show it on the site. If worse come to worse, desig the GUI or something.
-I see you are a writer. I hope you have a torough insight in the technicalities of building a game. How else will you communicate with your programmers, animators etc?
-don't spam these boards by posting a help wanted add everywhere you think its appropriate. In stead of getting more attention you'll probably get ignored.
If you do this.. you'll see a lot more people will be interested in helping out.
Put yourself into their place. Would you join someones team just becuase he claims he can do it ("lead you to succes")? I think not.. you'll want to see proof.
Another good things is leaving the "company" behind if you're not a registered company (I might be wrong here.. but I think its not). Called it a dev team or something. Why? Becuase its misleading... and misleading people works against you.
