TABB is out! Lithtech ESD developers here?

by Hap · in General Discussion · 05/14/2001 (4:23 pm) · 25 replies

TABB (Tex Atomic's Battle Bots) came out on RealArcade today. I'm wondering how many people visiting GarageGames.com are current Lithtech ESD developers? And after you guys have seen TABB, and RealArcade for that matter, are you guys going to change religions to V12?

We are anxiously waiting for V12 to come out to make our decision. I hope our art assets we did for Lithtech can be transferred over into the V12 engine.

I was well aware of Realarcade being powered by Gamespy before it became common knowledge...What I'm saying is that its pretty useless to create a separate tool when one already exists with an established community. Realarcade seemed to do nothing but alienate gamers...No one seems to be on TABBB except for one or two ppl at a time.

Well basically, Lithtech offers a free evaluation version. You can use that to build you game and then take it to a publisher, and pay the license fee then.

I'd like to try Serious Sam again...I thought it didn't do to well with outdoor scenes, at least I heard that from somewhere...

Yup, the evaluation version is quite nice and you can learn how to code everything from the source code of NOLF it comes with. Still some heavy OO code in NOLF to learn, but coming from doing a Genesis3D game, I am more than happy to have code that actually works. It is amazing to me.

Jerane, I just figured out why Real.com doesn't have forum to RealArcade Lithtech (Lithtech ESD) developers to communicate. They don't want to see their own developers trying to explain to them how moronic RealArcade is.

I honestly think the geniuses at Real.com make these decisions "in a bubble". They don't ask gamers or developers if anyone wants or will use RealArcade. I agree with you, all they succeed in doing is alienating gamers.

There is an arguement that RealArcade is directed towards casual gamers. This makes no sense to me, casual gamers are the LEAST likely to want to install RealArcade.

Well it appears to boil down to either having "spyware" with your game, or having GG take control of it in the event of a publishing disagreement:

If GG and the developer have a falling out, GG still owns the right to publish the sequels for a period of five years.

Where can I get a copy of the free(ish) Evaluation version of Lithtech? Not the ESD version. It's not on their website, and it's not in the download of noonelivesforever.com. At least, I didn't see it there.

Thanks

You have to contact Lithtech directly, sign an NDA, etc. and they'll send you a CD containing the binaries for the libraries, binaries and source for the tools, and supply you with the source to NOLF.
