Independent Game Conference 2007

by Mike Duggan · in General Discussion · 08/12/2007 (9:49 am) · 12 replies

I heard that GarageGames would probably be at the Independent Game Conference this year to feature Torque. The IGC will be around the middle of November; you can get all your news and information about it at http://www.independentgameconference.com -- their home website.

I'm going because of some books I've written and my experience in the industry, including a small beginner's book called 'Torque for Teens' which will be released about the same time. I hope you all join me in Austin!

@Matt

GarageGames host the "Indie Games Con", the "Independent Games Conference" is a different show that is somewhat related to what GG started (and started with a bit of GG input if I remember right). The two shows have run for years now so theres no real issue.

Logan is correct, the Independent Game Conference is in Austin, TX in November. We are in discussion with those guys and there may be some Torque-specific content for the show.

IGC is in Eugene, OR in October and is put on by us. More info can be found at indiegamescon.com.

I am interested in going to the conference. But I have serious reservation that it is going to be an army of TGE hobbyists as opposed to industry professionals. Am I just being silly?

Can you go if you dont have torque? if you are just a member of a team that is building a game on the engine?

@Michelle

You don't have to own or use Torque to attend either IndieGamesCon or the Texas Independent Game Conference.

Thanks Eric, wanna sponsor me? lmao I wish I could go. I wanna bug you all some more. I had such a great time at PAX I know this will be better just cuz I know more of the people as a whole. From my team, GGe and here. :)
But alas, I may not make it. I am totally interested though.

Michelle that makes no sense last time I checked I thought you needed to own a license of the engine to work with it or its illegal.

I think it's only if she touches the source code does she need a license....but I could be wrong. I dont think an artist on the team, for example, needs his/her own license.

edit:

Quote:4. FEES.

(a) The TGE Indie Game License fee for the Engine is $150 per each programmer using or accessing the source code to the Game(s) There are no additional royalties. Licensee does not have to show the Games or publish the Games with GarageGames.

The implication I got from Michelle's post was that the team owns the licensed copy
that she uses. Thus, she doesn't own one.

No no, i wanted to go to IGC.. not get a license lol.. I am a community dev and work as a recruiter for the Renwerx team... they are doing a game on a volunteer only staffing sequence. I just wanted to go. Looks like work is gonna over ride the ability to go to this convention tho.. darn. And I couldnt find anyone else that could go either, since the con is on weekdays instead of weekend.... darn again.
