Which Modeling Software to Buy?
by JohnSmedley · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 08/11/2007 (1:33 pm) · 33 replies
I'm at a loss here, My buddy who had the only licensed copy of 3DS Max 9 which I personally used also has left to pursue his own dream's.That said I'm sure you get the point clear I'm screwed, I myself can't afford a copy of 3ds max and being I'm not under any educational programs I'm even more screwed.
It's pretty upsetting to me, So I have a question... What modeling software that Is affordable and has a good documentation and training that I could invest in?
PS: I refuse to work with blender.

I just don't like people being judgmental on my IQ. All my life people have done this to me and would push me In a corner calling me names putting me down telling me I would never amount to anything. Thing Is one day I came across a site that would steer me in a direction I thought never would have been possible but they made it possible, of course I'm talking about Garage Games, I found a passion in me to become an artist and to create a game people would enjoy as other's In this Industry did.
All I want to do Is find a place to belong, a community to share my thoughts and ideas for the passion of gaming and 3D art.

I was wondering from what I can tell from the forums on http://www.sxcreations.com/wbb2/board.php?boardid=13 The Torque Exporter never made it out of beta? It's not a big deal I been trying the trial out and It's been very easy to use. Thanks.

Those are some mature quotes. What are 13 trying to be cool?
I wouldn't call blender a piece of trash, because I've seen some people at my college do some amazing things with it.
I've used it and I own legal copies of Max, Maya, XSI. The way I look at it is the more you know the better.
Each program has its advantages and disadvantages. Instead of critising products you should expand your knowledge.

A "Report Post" button.
We shouldn't have to tolerate this.

Reminds me of a bad GameFAQs account suicide. The ones that people rate lame/10.

--initially it started off fine, a couple of people offered opinions, the OP wasn't interested in them for whatever reason.
--the same people continued to press their opinions as if they were "the only true path", and that was not against forum decorum or policy, but not particularly appropriate.
--a flame war began with some light insults and direct personal attacks.
Personal attacks and flame wars are not appropriate for our forums. Do not participate for any reason..
--the flame war escalated on both sides, resulting in racial slurs and other "high powered" insults.
This is totally unacceptable, and all parties involved (both the OP and those that egged him on) have been noted.
--Several people attempted to defuse the situation, and this was both appropriate, and to be commended. Thank you to those that attempted to alleviate the flame war.
When anyone suggests that a post thread is becoming inappropriate, listen to them.
--An associate attempted to step in and further defuse the situation. He was ignored. This is also extremely inappropriate.
Associates are selected for a large variety of reasons, but levelheadedness and appropriate use of forums is one of the primary characteristics. If an Associate is suggesting that a forum thread is heading in a bad direction, posters should listen to them--not because they have "authority" or are "GG's representatives", but because they became associates because they know how we want the forums to be run.
--Finally, no one is perfect. People wake up in a bad mood, post before having coffee (like I am right now), or have had bad experiences with individuals that overflow into the forums. It's understandable to have heated disagreements from time to time that occasionally step over the line of proper forum decorum, and ultimately, that's ok--as long as it settles back down quickly.
All that being said, the behavior in this thread from multiple posters was completely inappropriate, and will not be accepted. I blame personally several people in this thread--not just the OP, but the people that egged him on as well. Neither side in this flame war holds a higher moral ground--it's just that one poster specifically went way too far, but the flame war was the fault of multiple people.
Don't do it again, anyone. I can't be more direct than that. Posting capability is a privilege, not a right, and the Community Managers will not hesitate to revoke posting privileges if we feel it is necessary.

Lightwave is in fact very excellent I downloaded the windows x64 bit version 2 day's ago and I simply love the documentation. However XSI not only has good docs It also has hour's worth of training video's you can purchase. and on the plus side has a 3ds max key mapping.
Also forgot to mention about constructor, Yes I have use it but right now it has some Issue that needs to be fixed first. But it is a very good application. I was wondering if Matt should start a donation program to help push it along.
I was just wondering has anyone tried using DelginePro?
MOD EDIT: Racial slurs and personal attacks are directly against our user policy, and escalating a flame war demonstrates poor judgment in our community.
"JohnSmedley" : This is an official warning: racial slurs will not be tolerated in our forums. If you continue to be disrespectful to the point of personal attacks and racial slurs, your posting privileges will be removed.
