Vista

Does anyone know of any issues TGEA has with running games on a machine that uses Vista? On preliminary tests of our product, we encountered a few minor problems but were unable to discern if they were related to TGEA or the instability of the drivers or OS itself. We will be performing more thorough tests to isolate the issues, but I'm curious to see if anyone else has encountered problems.

Yeah I've found nasty problems with opengl.. basically any 3d object I put in that has more then one object (primitive) seems to have very odd artifacts looking like random spikes coming from the intersections. This could be specifically a laptop vista problem though, since windows, and the vid-card ppl namely ATI can't pull their heads out of their proverbial assholes.

TGEA doesn't use OpenGL, Nic.

I wouldn't be suprised if the OpenGL drivers they ship with Vista were lacking in some respects, but since TGEA is Direct3D based I can't see why it wouldn't work.

OpenGL doesn't ship with Vista, it's the responsibility of the card vendors now (NVIDIA, ATI).

Vista default drivers hardy support anything, same with XP default drivers, both systems need to be properly updated before they can be expected to work correctly.

Update the Vista drivers and nearly everything one could run on XP will run on Vista.

I use a number of OpenGL applications on Vista and never have any problems, but i often hear from ignorant people about how Vista can not render OpenGL. Ignorant people are just believing and spreading internet rumors, based off the fact that very early Vista video drivers did not have OGL support.

I have had some trouble with DX applications NOT playing nice with Vista (Vista who have the NEW DX10, that actually do not offer anything new...)

You mean Vista dont offer the new DX10? Or that DX10 DO bring new functions to into the DirectX API?

I have done some reading and a tad bit of comprehending, and decided there was nothing overly exciting about DX10 that would make me run out and get a DX10 video card...

But my point was more in the area that I have never had trouble with Vista and OpenGL, but I have had issues with Vista running older DX applications.
