Best Terrain Editor for TGE?

I'm new to this and was wondering what terrain editor people preferred using to build their games. I plan on making more detailed and complex maps, and was wondering which software to go with. Also any information on the dif exporter to go with that software would be helpful. thanks!

But which would be the best terrain editor to use, as in highest quality along with easiest exportability?

The built in editor is pretty much the only option, best or not. Any external editor won't bring in any type of terrain file anyway. If you just want to build a terrain, the best terrain editor i have found is l3dt, but again getting it into tge doesn't seem to work at all.

They have a L3DT for torque, does that not work?

The way to import terrain in tge is bitmap files which l3dt exports fine, but torque has had for some time, a problem getting the bitmaps in. I haven't really looking into it lately, it may be fixed or there may be a way to do it now. If so, you can generate terrain that way (l3dt) as well as the built in editor. Simply export the height map as a 256x256 bmp file.

@Jason: Could you be more specific please? As far as I am aware, TGE heightmap import works fine.

Ditto, heightmap import is fine for me these days. I've used L3DT (non Torque) to generate a map, and imported it into Torque.

Sorry guys, if it's working in stock now thats good, i haven't tried it in a few. Before, if you went to import the bitmap (256x256) it crashed the engine or the file didn't show up in the list. My tweaking with the terrain lately has given me some minor ability to import larger height maps so i haven't messed with stock lately.
