World War I game

With the exception of flying, there is a serious dearth of fist person World War I games out there. The reason is obvious; compared to WWII, WWI has boring weapons and the static nature of the western front is not very exciting.

Except I think the western front would make a great setting for an open ended first person shooter because the fighting is done in close quarters and the objective is just to capture a small portion of land. You could take control of a lieutenant and have 20 AI followers under your command doing what you do. Probe for a weak point in the line, attack it, and when you are killed, you take over the next highest-ranking member of your group.

I think this could be a good game and I would really enjoy playing it. I like the idea of taking control of another player after you die and capturing certain areas, but I do think you may face some problems. First of all, I never paid much attention in history class, but from what I remeber staying in the trenches was a big part of the war. Most people that stood up, even for a minute, were killed by snipers or artillery. I know you aren't going to make it that realistic, but it was just a thought. I also think with so many World War II games that nobody plays, it may be hard for a World War I game to get noticed.

Anyway, can't wait to play this game. Good Luck!

I definately think the WWII market is flooded with a ridiculous amount of games that are all pretty much the same, but this one looks interesting. What would make it really great is to capture the whole atmosphere of trench fighting - the muddy trenches, have a day/night system and shifts, stuff like that. I'd play that!

You should be able to cause trench collapses on the enemy, like if you threw a grenade close enough, itd be an interesting tactic to cause them to bottle up into a small section ya know? Id play it

There are loads of ideas that can be implemented in the WWI setting so it can get pretty exciting, running around in trencehs, doing everyday tasks like setting up or repairing communication, operating machineguns or artillery pieces, flying planes or zeppelins, driving horsecarts or tanks. -It could be very adrenalin pumping!

Also remember that WWI is the last great era of naval warfare. Before the birth of the aircraft as a player at sea, it was the heavy metal of the battleships, cruisers and destroyers slugging it out at Jutland, Scarpa Flow and the Falklands. While Tiller did some justice to the genre early on, he has let it die in the 2D arena and not even very far into that era. This would appear another area prime for exploration.
