Wow, thats cool. I'm curious whether its base off TGE or TGEA. seeing that wii probably uses a form of opengl

It's been reported on Gamasutra as well. www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=14708

Interested indeed. I'd hope it would be more like TGBX, such that I could port my TGB project over to both 360 and Wii. :)

My question:
Is there going to be an license an indie can afford or is it going to be like Torque 360. Everyone know what I'm talking about leave the little man out.

$2000 is good, but there is no way an indie can afford $20,000 to $100,000 plus the devkit. An indie might as well hang it up.

The pricing on Nintendo's site claims $2000-$10,000, but that is just for the devkit. TGEWii would most likely be on top of that. Next to no information has been released about WiiWare or its pricing, however.

Soon. Unfortunately though, we really don't have much more information for you aside from what was in the press release.

Are we able to develop in the current TGE and be assured that we can port it over to the Wii ? Or do we have to buy a whole new TGEWii Engine and develop in that ? I'm assuming since it's a port that the former would be the case??

As I understand it, it is a relatively easy port. The Pronto guys are at Casual Connect in Seattle this week. When they get back in their office, I'm going to try to get them to make an appearance on these forums and answer some technical questions.

They should be able to answer your question definitively.

I personally suppose it will not be affordable at all... at least you need to have a big team and some income to be able to afford price tags +10,000 dollars

that its not quite for very small team indies and not at all for individuals, that i think is the most part of the torque users

its like for big team "indies" that every member have a great job with big salary apart from game development to be able to spend that amount without any worries

or

that has able to release several succesfull titles so the incomes are so big that there are no problem to use a portion of that to pay for the license

thats my opinion...

but i dont really dont know..

cheers

I'm optimistically speculating here but...

I hope this will be priced with a similar price tag to the rest of the Torque products. The controllers will work with the PC/Torque engine through a usb bluetooth device(we know this is partly possible already.)

You could therefore use TorqueWii to build and run full Wii style games on the PC, BUT if you want to deploy to Wii and further, then maybe the big bucks are required to buy a Wii dev kit. By then though, if your game is good I don't think it would be hard to find some private investors happy to foot the cash. (Just flash them the Wii sales figures. ;) )

Again, just speculation....

If TorqueWii has a price that is prohibitive to the majority of users here then in my opinion it would be a missed opportunity. :/

I am thinking that it is a port with the Wii SDK, which is quite different than the excellent platform hacks that have been made to use IR devices on the PC in Torque. And if that is the case, then a license from Nintendo will be necessary. But then, I don't know. I'm just speculating as well.

Wiik. its not fun working (waiting) w/ NoA. I'll pass. I would be much more excited about a PSP version.

A lot of developers seem to be frothing at the mouth to develop a Wii game. If you were Nintendo, would you just open the floodgates and let everyone develop Wii games or would you remain selective about whom you allow to do it?

I would have a slightly usable but not extremely good DevKit for about a grand if I was Nintendo.
