Target Info HUD

I am trying to create a target information HUD that shows the name, level, etc. of the player right under the crosshair; using what used to be a RW starter kit. Does anyone have advice or expertise on how to do this? I am familiar with torquescript and the gui-related part, I just need to know how to call the event to push or pop the hud and also how to tell what is targeted and therefore pull it's information. I looked forever for the code that makes the health show up, but I'm not good with the engine and couldn't understand it well enough to use it. I'd also like to set a dynamic variable range, but if that's too difficult, just any advice is appreciated. Much thanks,
