Licensing questions

For TGBX I see that there are two licensing options, commercial or indie. Looking at the terms for indie (which is what I would fall under) I see that it says you "must be working on a game." I'm just one person, I like programming as a hobby and I'm usually working on ideas rather than a game. I'm learning and would like to take advantage of using TorqueX, but cannot find anything about using it without using TGBX. I don't mind paying for an indie license, since it is pretty cheap, but do I really have to be working on a single game? Do I have the freedom to tinker and mess around like I'm currently doing with XNA? I guess the terms just kind of confuse me as I'm a hobbyist and don't think I'd really have much of anything to sell at any point, I'm looking at probably sharing with family/friends and maybe releasing for free on my own personal website for anyone interested. That is if I ever complete a game.

Now, I do notice that if I subscribe to the XNA Creators Club that I get TGBX for free. Is this with the full year membership or do I also get it with the four month membership? Also, if my membership expires or I cancel it, do I lose access to TGBX?

Thanks.

Yes, you can prototype and such. Basically, the EULA is stating that you can't use the Indie license to build game development tools, starter kits, simulations, etc. Tinkering around to learn it or prototype things, etc. is all fine. In fact, you could really develop using the Indie license on anything you wanted, you just can't release/sell it until you upgrade to commercial.

Jonathon is correct with regards to the Indie license limitations.

Regarding your other question, access to Torque X Builder (formerly TGBX) is tied to your Creators Club membership. So, you do get it with a four-month membership, but you lose access through expiration or cancellation.

Thanks for the clarifications.

One last question though. If I do obtain an indie license and create a game, would I be allowed to sell that game. Like if I made a fun little coffee-break type game and sold it for 5 bucks, would the indie license allow that, or would I have to upgrade to commercial to be able to sell that game. Also, does the indie license allow multiple games with the same license or can I only make one?

Also, from what I understand, all license versions give you access to the same version of the software, it's just a difference of what you can and cannot do with what you create, right?

Thanks.

You can absolutely do that. You can make as many games as you want and sell them to your heart's content. The only restriction is that if you end up making $250k in a year (in total, not just off one game), you are required by the EULA to upgrade to the commercial version.

That is correct.

And, if you make $250k in a year, you are required to give me half in exchange for reading this post. =)

Yes, it's true, and the Creators Club forums have the information, but you download it directly from them.
