Max importer for Blender

Hey Gang,
I was wondering if anyone who uses blender, knew of a way to import a 3ds Max file (.max or .obj) into Blender. I have some files that I would like to convert, to be used with blender, and would rather not have to go through the process of modelling them again.
Any help is appreciated.

I think you can import 3ds files as well. Max is a native, closed format and I doubt if Autodesk will open it to Blender devs

Shortly after posting I found the way to import the .obj. Kinda obvious. but like I said I am new to Blender and the interface and everything is foriegn to me.
I have yet to find a way to import the .3ds files. maybe I just haven't looked hard enough.
Someone was telling me of a plugin that could do all of these with ease and accuracy but they could not point me in the right direction. If anyone can, than please post up.
Thanks again for the posts.

There have been a couple of .max attempts, but I'm not sure if any of them have gotten very far. The .max file format is so particular to Max and how Max does things at a very low level that it is more than a UV reference and poly data. People keep working, though, so there may be one down the road...
