2D Isometric game with realtime networking.

I have some game ideas that revolve around an isometric view, sprites, and realtime multiplayer combat. And I have a couple questions concerning Garage Games technology, or rather the recommended choice of technology.
#1. I know that Torque Game Builder is used for 2D games and comes with TorqueNet Lite for turn-based multiplayer action. Obviously this doesn't fit one of my requirements, so the first question is, how difficult, or rather, 'appropriate' would it be to compile the TorqueNet library in with TGB?
#2. Assuming that the above question and observation wouldn't be the good way to go, what about using TGE for 2D games?
So basically I am asking the community, given the requirements I stated above, which technology they would recommend?
Best regards,
