What are the copyright laws as far as game development? I'm the leader of an indie game development company that is extremely low-budget, and I'd like to know if I have to spend the $300-plus to trademark our games

Several places in the forums people have discussed similar things, the biggest factor is ideas are not protected so if you make a game and someone makes a game pretty much the same, there's nothing to do but the name can be protected and under US law at least I believe that any artwork you create is automatically protected under some general copyright but I don't know all the terms of that.
