Confused about Torque X and Torque X Builder

by M. Stolley · in Torque X 2D · 06/26/2007 (12:43 am) · 13 replies

Hi and sorry,

but i am a little confused becouse i have downloaded the free Torque X version and installed it and then it semed to be the Torque X Builder demo version.

On the site GG wrote that Torque X Builder work with Torque X so where can i get it?

I also have two versions of the TGB engine, one indie and anoe commercial.
For the indie i have a key for the free Torque X Builder version but not for the commercial version!?

So when i want to buy/use the platformstarter kit for the Torque X Builder, what do i have to install now?

I understand that i must install the free Torque X version, then the Torque X Builder on Top and later the starter Kit. Is this the right direction or ..?

Mathias

You shoudln't have to install anything else for TXB to work, you should just be able to activate it.

The platformer kit can be found here (indie) or here (commercial).

Your order is correct: XNA GSE > Torque X > Platformer. The reason for the order is that Torque X and the platformer kit need to add templates to Visual Studio. TXB can be activated at any time.

Torque X Builder is the editor interface for TorqueX. You do not have to use it to create games for TorqueX. It just makes your life MUCH easier! TorqueX is the engine framework. Builder is the editor.

Thank you David.

But then i need to install Torque X and i have downloaded ist but after installing ist seemed to be the Torque X Builder.
I think that is what confused me.

So if i understand it right the downloaded Torque X ist wrong becouse it is the builder.

Sorry i am more from the art site and not a coder :o(

Torque X is our C# engine built on Microsoft's XNA framework. There are two flavors: the free binary version and Pro. The only difference is that Pro costs money and with Pro you get the C# source of the engine.

Torque X Builder (TXB) is the toolset for Torque X. It's built in C++ and TorqueScript that's based on our existing 2D toolset, Torque GameBuilder (TGB). It costs money, but there are a couple deals: 1) If you buy TXB you get TGB and vice versa -or- 2) If you are an XNA Creator's Club member (which is what you need to buy from Microsoft to deploy your games to your retail XBox 360) you get TXB for free.

This is exactly correct.

The file you downloaded and installed is the Torque X engine PLUS the 30-day free trial of Torque X Builder. You can unlock the 30-day free trial of Torque X Builder using the key provided on your My Account page. Since you are a TGB owner, you should already have Torque X Builder listed as one of the products on your My Account page. Use the key next to it to unlock the TXB trial.

Hope that helps.

If Mathias has the commercial version of TGB, is he granted a commercial version of TorqueX?

Of Torque X Builder, yes.
