Exported DIF deoesn't support collision detection ?
by Steven Zhou · in Constructor · 06/06/2007 (1:27 am) · 30 replies
I was trying to use all these tools to export DIF ( with collision detection DTS ). When I fired the gun, the collision works fine. However, my avatar can get through the wall ( the collision doesn't seem to be working ).
Does anybody know about this? Your help will be highly appreciated.

Constructor 1.0.2 may fix this bug for you (it did for others).

Feel free to send me the scene and I will take a look at it when I get a chance (which may be a couple of weeks).

You will see that their are many brushes that have no collision... it doesn't matter what I do, set them up as "collision" or "detail" type, or anything... for a quick example, walk to the center room and fall down to the bottom of the pit. The large cylinder in the center has some brushes that behave in this way. The cylinder is simple, only 8 sides. You will also notice that there are the corner brushes in the room on the right that have no collision, it seems.
I am wondering if this is a bug, since I've never had this happen in 3D world studio in this fashion when exporting. I am exporting using the "Export Dif..." option in Constructor 1.0.2.

BTW, I seem to be having the same issues with my map. You can download my map at the following address:http://doubleedgesoftware.com/constructor_issues/fc1.csx

Did anyone happen to check out my download referenced above? I am definitely puzzled at this... some brushes also allow the player to fall straight down through them... strange.

But I was having the same problem with one of my maps. I was "diving" into the structure at some angles and some brushes. I just downloaded Constructor 1.3 and it's gone. Apparently Matt Fairfax managed to fix a bug.
(Note: this problem was making me give up on Constructor and get back to Hammer. The only thing that made me stay was the DTS baking into DIF - just a feedback to the developers about the power some features have)

Jason, my map2dif crashed inside Constructor trying to compile your map.But I was having the same problem with one of my maps. I was "diving" into the structure at some angles and some brushes. I just downloaded Constructor 1.3 and it's gone. Apparently Matt Fairfax managed to fix a bug.

Any feedback would be MUCH appreciated!!! Is this bug issues in 1.0.3??

Okay, I'm using version 1.0.3 now... which the portals are all working great, with the exception that I have no collision at all on several brushes that used to support collision when exported through 1.0.2. Also, when in-game (stock build TGE 1.5.2) some of the faces are blurring across the screen, not updating correctly. I've included a link to my map in case anyone wants to try it out and give feedback on what I might be doing wrong. I am not using map2dif, but using "Export to DIF..."http://doubleedgesoftware.com/constructor_issues/fc1.csx

The trick of first saving to a .map file, then saving as a .csx file, closing it, opening the .csx, then exporting to .dif "fixes" the collision issue. Seems like it reveals a pretty obvious path to solving the problem on the GG side...curious what the delay is.

Cool, Kelly. I'll try that and see what happens! Thanks for the tip!!!

Well, I appreciate the suggestion Kelly. But these instructions you referenced above did not solve the collision issue for me. :-( I'm still at square one.-Jason

Well wait a minute... I see what you mean. I saved the file as a map, and exported only from a map and it worked great, even though I lost my Constructor-created lights... Then resaved back to the csx file, and it worked but STILL didn't have my lights. This might work.... I'll experiment with this a little more and let you guys know what I find out. Any other thoughts from anyone?-Jason
