Can't Install Torque X - Vista
by Daniel Duckworth · in General Discussion · 05/25/2007 (8:32 pm) · 8 replies
I am running Vista Ultimate and have installed visual C# basic and the XNA refresh stuff. I installed TGB fine, however I can't install the Toque X open beta. I get the following error message after opening the install file (after it has been given permission).
There is a problem with this Windows Installer pacakge. A program required for this install to complete could not be urn. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
It then proceeds to roll back the installation and ends 'prematurely'.
Any ideas?

Go through program files and right click on the command prompt. Select 'run as administrator' on it and then browse through the command prompt to where the TX installer is. Run the TX installer from the command prompt and it will install properly.

It's because you need to run the executable for TX as an administrator.Go through program files and right click on the command prompt. It's a vbscript the installer runs. Vista's doing it's job, GG should figure out a better way to run the script =)

This feature is on by default; regardless if your chipset can support it. "Control Panel"-"System"Advance"-Settings"Data Execution Protection" tab.. By default the second radio button is enable; and you might notice a messaging, say, "your hardware does not support this feature." Choose the top radio button.. "DEP for Windows for essential services"..
This should resolve it..

I think I have some insight on this issue; and a possible solution. Window Vista; has a data execution protection scheme that it uses. On old machine the chips sets do no have this feature built in. So, you woudl get error messages like " The install or setup program has not response or did not finish in a timely matter", which prevents the installer to finish correct and also, incompletely as well. This feature is on by default; regardless if your chipset can support it. Hmm. That's a completely seperate issue than Daniel's issue. A good tip, but not relevant to this situation. What I have posted is the exact way to resolve the issue for anyone getting this specific error in Vista.
