Pinning down the server tech

So i'm pretty much on the ropes with the server tech here. I've done many thread searches throughout and most likely missed something that might prove to be useful.

Our team is developing an mmo and we are at a phase where i think have a stripped down dev server (stripped of all client stuff) up and running is pretty vital. So i have the following hardware available to run said server...

--Mac g4 mini osx 10.4.9 (currently holds svn webdav and the database)
--Intel pent 4 dell notebook (can run either linux on an external or windows)
--2 intel 9600 core duos that are our main working pc's.

No logic would say go with the bigger boys, but since they are our main working pcs and gaming and whatnots it's really not a safe choice. That leaves the mac and the notebook. granted the server right now doesn't need to be a powerhouse, but i do need to think ahead a bit. I'm absolutely going linux for server tech and both machines can run linux or some variation. So i have 2 dilemmas, one is which would make for better server machine right now for the torque engine? Second is how do i find more resources detailing how to build the code for said server? Or do i just start ripping out code till i have something working?

Also, i'm using AFX and the MK, does the server need all the afx code blocks to be functional? Does the MK?

As you can see i'm at an impass and if anyone can offer up clues that would be great and even better if they have the time, pony up and join the crew? Well, I won't get ahead of myself, but whats the word?
