Can't install on Vista

by xenite · in Torque X 2D · 05/21/2007 (10:01 pm) · 6 replies

I have the prereqs installed (C# Express, Game Studio 1.0 refresh), but the installer gets 90% through the process then puts up a cryptic error saying "A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor".

I'm running on Vista. Have admin privs. TorqueX v 1.0.4.2.

Any thoughts?

Install it from the C:\ as an admin. Its not that hard to do, I don't know the exact command prompt, but I remember it not being that hard.

1. browse to the command prompt program and right-click it, running it as admin
2. browse to where the TX executable is and execute it from the admin-enabled command prompt

Yeah, running as admin did it. But you can't right-click an msi and select "Run as Administrator". You have to do it some other way (like from a privileged command prompt).

Problem solved.

I just turn off UAC altogether and run as an Administrator. I suppose it's not "best practice" but I don't tend to open "Elf Bowling" attachments from my friends either. :-)

There are many ways to get spyware/malware/viruses/etc on your computer other than opening attachments which you are prone to without even knowing. The fact that you turned UAC off all together means you aren't security concious enough to take all the steps necessary without it to not fudge your system up. This is not a put down or attack on you, just an observation and warning to others.

No problem here.
Installed just fine.
