OpenAL Sound problem...

Hi, we're having a problem with the open sound piece. We play a gun shot sound, and if we do it slowly, we hear it normaly, but if we do it quickly, it sounds clearly closer. I have checked the values of all of the parameters we are passing in (this is a 2d sound, and should always sound the same no matter where we are) and none of them varies at all. It appears that the only time we have a problem is if we fire the sound quickly, one after the other with little or no delay. So, to recap, firing 10 times in a row, the first one is noticeably softer, while subsequent ones are noticeably louder. The sound profile we are using is the standard 2d default. I might add that on some platforms this problem does not occur, but on at least 2 of our platforms it does. (We are using realtek AC/3 drivers, and they are up to date). If anyone has any idea of why this might be happening, please let me know!! Thanks!!
