Too many labels in editor

How can I reduce the the number of visible labels in the editor in TGE 1.5.
I believe that in 1.4 you could change the Visible Distance preference. But I tried this and it had no effect.

Then I found in the 1.5 release notes: 'Clamped the visible distance to 2000'.

Can the visible distance be reduced in 1.5 or is there a better way to avoid getting a screen full of mission object labels?

I would love it if they had a "visgroups" concept. But most people probably don't have gillions of objects like I (and I presume you) do.

I wonder if Constructor does?
