hey guys, a weird modeling problem

ok guys, heres the problem, I have done all the modeling tutorials (working in max), I have made the block character, and I have been working on my own character. Now heres the problem, my computer is playing a sick game on me, different body parts can export, even export together, however the arms and head are giving me trouble. I have exported this about 100 times in 100 different ways and I've found that both the head and arms will export (separately), as long as I delete the rest of the model, so theoreticaly I have been able to export the entire thing...... just in pieces.. PLEEEAAAASE HELP ME!!!! I am at the end of my whits here :( I have been screwing with this thing for days now and its really starting to take its toll on the old nerves.... if anyone has any idea why it could possibly be doing this then please tell me, thanks guys :)

Well unfortunately your description of your problem does not help very much. You might be best off uploading your file to a site somewhere so that we can check it out and give you better suggestions.

The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head is that you have a segmented mesh and the parts of your characters body (ie. head, arms, body) have verticies that sometimes lie on the same (or similar) world space coordinates. This can sometimes cause the exporter to misread your model data because the exporter is only accurate to so many digits and verticies that are very close to one another can be misread. You might want to try connecting your segmented character into a single mesh and exporting, this would at least let you know if the problem is with your model or something else in the scene.

Edit: What does your dump.dmp file tell you when you export?

hey logan, thanks for the response...... I'm pretty sure its not the problem you described, I alrady checked that, I didnt combine the shape into one mesh, but tried separating each of the body parts a considerable distance exporting them... no luck :( ..... but ya, I checked the dump file, it keeps stopping on the third pass, collapsing unneeded nodes....

thats all it gives me for the third pass, then it just stops....... ummmm...... any ideas?

is right eye is a mesh it should be something like righy_eye110 you need those detail numbers on the mesh at worst send it to me and I'll take a look

oh dont worry, I have them there, in fact the entire mesh's naming structure is correct with detail levels and everything, but even if it wasnt, the mesh would simply just not show up in the game, it wouldnt keep the object from exporting.... besides I've gotten all the individual meshes to export and show up..... just not all together :(.... its a real stumper :\... anyway, thanks for the reply

oh thanks man, you've been a giant help, I probably never would have tried that, oh, and I checked out your site, haha, I like the idea, ji joe, ninja turtles, transformers, I grew up on all that crap...... NICE site too, I want a shout out for fixing the model :-) on the progress page. If you really are serious about helping out just follow the links here on GG and apply to the "Yo Joe Stuff" ad, hell bring your team too.
