What does Garage Games want?

by Joseph Sanchez · in Jobs · 05/01/2007 (12:10 pm) · 2 replies

What is garage games focus? Is it on selling the engines? Is garage games interested in emulation? I cannot find what garage games WANTS, what they are looking for? Is there a forum that states that Garage Games is currently looking for ideas on a Rts, racing, sports, fighting? It would help If someone could tell me what garage games wants, so I will be able to focus on their priority.
I have a couple of fresh ideas, but will anybody listen? I noticed that a company called Digital Eclipse handles a large amount of xbox live arcade games and emulations. If I have an emulation idea that will bring
(Digital Eclipse or Garage Games)-Microsoft-SEGA together, will it be better to submit my idea to them or to post it here?

From the Garage Games homepage:

"At GarageGames, our mission is simple. We want to make great games. In fact, we think that anyone who wants to make great games should be able to do so. To that end, we have created the feature-rich, yet affordable Torque Technologies line of tools and resources for game developers of all experience levels. Join the growing Torque game development community and start making your great game today!"

From the About page:

GarageGames is:

* a developer of game engine technology and tools
* an online publishing label for independent games
* a thriving online community of independent developers
* a distributor of game content to aid development
* a first party developer of great independent games!

In short: They want to sell their technologies, sell and promote games, and help people who are interested in game development find a community where they can learn and share. They already have very high level contacts in the game industry and they aren't really looking for ideas so much as they're looking for games that are complete, or at least a nice prototype that shows a game's potential.

For game products sold through GG, it should be fun.

It can be strange, or quirky, or dark, or profane(maybe?), or violent, or childish, or thought-provoking, or almost anything.

Indie development is about finding and pursuing your own passions for games. If you've always wanted to make a science fiction sports game with medieval themes, go for it. You don't even have to use Garage Games engine products.

Who knows if anyone will listen to your ideas. Starting and completing a couple of game projects will probably give you a bit more credibility, though.

The bottom line is this, make the game of your dreams (adjusted for budget, talent, skill, passion, hours-in-the-day, etc.) -- and make it fun. The rest will come much easier after that.
