Hi.

We are trying to make a space shooter in 3D with the TGEA engine and are thinking about buying the L3DT terrrain builder to make our terrain with. We want to be able to make long maps with different terrain tiles. And have been told that using Atlas is the way to go. Im just wondering if L3DT is the right tool and see if there is anyone out there with some nice feedback on the functionality of the tool? What we want to achieve is a long map in one axis (y axis) with varying terrain that doestn repeat after just a short time which it does if you use the terraform tool in the TGEA editor.

Best Regards /DDS

Bear in mind that filling that world will be time consuming. Alot of the time, game levels are made in confined spaces to reduce the time it takes to world build the levels (putting in trees, building, pows - playtesting).

Atlas terrains have to be square. Rectangles won't work unfortunately. You could, however, try multiple square atlas terrains. By tiling them together you could achieve what you are looking for. There are several posts (pro and con) discussing this approach.
