I noticed on the xna team blog that the new update is available.
does anyone know if there are any compatability issues with the new xna update and Torque X?

He wouldn't say anything specific but he did say that we haven't even began to see what they have in store as far as content.
If they only put 1/10th of the content out that they do for their other dev tools, I can only imagine what we will see down the road.
Sure, they may not be making money on it now, but you figure that most of what they do is about getting people developing with MS tools and improving there user base. Hell, if you really think about it, it's about a perfect plan. Let indies make games and if they are good, MS can step in and possibly contract it with less worry about deadlines and other factors considering the game is officially done. No concept, no proof of commitment. You make a game and they see it. Maybe they will buy it.
Who knows for sure. All i know is that this seems to be a win/win situation for all parties

I had a bit of a conversation the other day with one of my MS evangelist buddies. He wouldn't say anything specific but he did say that we haven't even began to see what they have in store as far as content.

What reasons are there for not making a commercial game with XNA? Are there any reasons other than the requirement of GSE (which microsoft said they should remedy)?

You do not need to install an IDE to run an XNA PC Game, where did you get this information from? You just need to include the XNA redistributable binaries, you could pack all that into an installer with a custom action to install them if the end user does not have them on their system.

@Ian - It wasn't supposed to require you to have GSE, but the publish feature of GSE was broken and therefore it wouldn't run unless they had GSE installed. If this bug has been fixed, then all you need is the redistributible, however it is against the XNA/GSE EULA to include the redist with your commercial game.

Ok, seems you are right, although, regarding the EULA on the redistributable, I believe its a mistake and will be corrected soon.

Over at the official XNA forums, it appears the MS guys are at a conflict with what the EULA is actually saying. It seems that the MS rep believes that you can't redistribute the redistributable for commercial 360 games, and can for commercial Windows games. The MS rep is just a marketing guy (dave for those who know him) but he is one of the head hanchos of the XNA world and he said he's checking with the legal department to get this ironed out.

Yeah, Z-Man told me that you can. I'm just waiting to see what's up. Still expecting to ship a game this fall though. Hopefully they have settled by the end of summer. Or the game will be releasing MDX. Thankfully, MDX works enough to still have the game play ok. But I hope this settles soon. Makes me nervous.
