A distress call from a newbie

Hello GG Community.
First of all I want to express that this is a wonderful community to follow, and hopefully be part of as well.
The thing is that I have recently gone into Game Development, or at least the idea that Game Development is something I really want to do, but the road is long, and the road is hard and bumpy, it takes a lot of will and dedication, and luckily for yours truly that hasn't been a problem yet, however, there is one thing I've had a lot of trouble with, and hopefully this community can help me out.
For some time now I've been trying to use different map editors to learn and create something nice, I've even tried out Constructor hoping that, despite it being so new, there would sooner or later be a big in-depth tutorial taking you form A to Z, because I am afraid that that is what I need, there isn't though, or, there isn't as far as I know I mean.
So really, what I wanted to ask for help with was some references as to where I can learn to map, from the absolute beginning to the more advanced techniques, because I am serious about this, and I am one dedicated man with a lot of inspiration, I just need to learn to use the tools available at my disposal to get some of all that inspiration out...
please, help me
