Critter critiques

Hi guys,
This is the first critter I've modelled for our upcoming MMO, Distant Fate.
I'd appreciate critiques! Be brutal, I don't bruise easily. =)

The Virulent Plasmid is one of the game's larger critters. It exudes toxins (particle effects not shown), and is fond of spewing corrosive goo from the four sphincter-like protrusions on its back when retreating from attackers.

Legs look kinda weird.. I thought it may be like a plant creature or something as they look like leaves - is this intended?

Yep! The plasmids are a hodgepodge of DNA, part vegetable, part insect, part alien. "Weird" is what we're shooting for, but weird-bizarre, not weird-defective.

I'm extremely stingy with my polys, incidentally, sometimes overly so. This critter has a polycount of 620. Too small?

If "weird/bizzar" is what you are after, you've accomplished your goal.
I think it looks great.

Well in that case I think you have got what you wanted in the model :)
the only part that bothers me about the model is the eyes, I dont think they sit will/they look out of place.

Im a fan of low poly and I think a lot of people these days waste poly's for the sake of it so Id say keep the count you have now :)

Nice creature, it looks fine, especially those bent legs, it just seems a little out of place in the level to me...

Love the hex floor, btw!

The area shown here is just a testbed, it's not the critter's native habitat. Eventually, he'll live in a ruined, rubble-strewn, fetid-looking area.

I like the eyes; they start off squinched shut, and pop open when the critter is provoked. They also swivel slightly during the animations, and the effect is pretty creepy.

Thanks much for the feedback!

Oh, the floor is one of the textures I plan to release back into the wild at a later date, so if you like it, you're welcome to give it a home in your project. =)
