Derry,

I built a large campus on an "Active Worlds" type basis. But I want to own my world on my website. I do not want to pay each month or year. I do not want interference from world managers which I experienced before. Am I able to make an interactive walk around world using this software? I would like to walk around Adam's church.

Thanks,

Andrew

@Andrew: you can probably create what you want with the Torque game engine, perhaps even with this church model (if you paid Adam a license fee for his work, but I'm not sure if it is for sale), but it would require a lot of programming work and a server on which to host the game/church. If you are not a programmer, then the programming work would probably cost money. The server would also cost money, not to mention paying someone to set it up and take care of it. Just the server alone would probably cost you around $100/month and that would only support say 30 users. This doesn't count hosting your mp3 and wmv movies.

Hosting what you want on the internet costs money. There is really no way around that .

I suggested Second Life because you can play for free and it can support what you want for minimal or no cost (depending on what you can get people to donate). You could purchase your own island (or find someone to purchase it for you and cover the monthly fees) which would give you free run to do anything you wanted. Or you could rent some land for a minimal monthy fee (or find someone to give you free rent) or get someone to give you some land for your church. I was able to find someone to give me free land in exchange for my building skills.
