Vivendi Universal...Trouble?

by Jerane Alleyne · in General Discussion · 07/04/2002 (3:16 pm) · 6 replies

I was recently hearing about the issues going on over at Vivendi Universal...some boardroom drama leading to the dismissal/overthrow of good ol' Jean-Marie Messier...

I can't remember for certian, but isn't Sierra owned by Vivendi? I ask this, becasue I am curious about what might happen to Sierra if Vevendi really plunges, and consequently to Garagegames, and us!

With the goings on since Enron started the dominos falling, there just seems to be a reason to be watchful of some of the big boys. I just thought this was a valid concern, and was curious if there is any preparation in the case of such a situation occuring.

Thanks :)

Welp, GG.com isn't owned by Vivendi or Sierra, only has an agreement for the torque engine. I'm not attorney or a economic guy... so I don't know what would happen is Sierra goes down under. I'm sure a company would either take it over, or buy a large part of it, or buy licenses(maybe Sony)

Yeah, I'm mainly concerned about the TGE agreement, as well as the commercial publishing arrangement possibility for successful TGE-created games that Sierra has going on with GG, and how these would be affected. I'm sure GG wold go on fine, its just the other guys I'm concerned about :)

Thanks :P

I thought the sierra deal was called off? besides, gg.com has secured the rights to torque (the legal costs involved in doing that deal are why torque costs what it does).

Dont worry, this wont affect anything.

Called off? The distribution agreement? I really didn't know that...

Well, I guess it still good then :)

Thanks!

Sierra and Blizzard are both owned by Vivendi (and a couple other companies). Vivendi is on the Enron boat of messing with their books to make their comany seem better then it was. Vivendi will be looking to sell some of it's companies to get back of the possitive side of the books. Doesn't look like Sierra or Blizzard are part of that though.

This will have no effect on GG.
