Tools Panel: Create Tab: deactivated Shapes icon

An observation, perhaps I'm not following how it should work or how to 'change' direction on the fly for Create. I started out by activating the Create Tab, then I selected the Sphere icon, saw the Props panel change, and then the Shapes icons de activated to grey[no longer selectable], while Entities, Primitives, and Duplicate icons all remained active[selectable]. I couldn't get the Shapes icons in the Panel to reactivitate[become selectable] untill I did some other commands that cleared that 'stack' of entries?? File[menuDown]-- brought my icons back to 'life'...not sure what I did yesterday to clear it.

Thanks, Dave! Thought there must have been a 'deactivate' and ESC works great! Can't wait to get ahold of the official manual/wiki...;)

Yes it looks like those Shapes buttons on the Create tab are not consistent with their counterparts under the File menu. I'll add this as a bug to our internal tracking system. In the mean time if you have a tool active and would like to add a static mesh or reference shape, either deactivate the tool or use the equivalent operations under the File menu.
What happens when a tool is activated some menu items and buttons are grayed out, as they may not be used with an active tool. You may tell if a tool is activated either with the change in mouse pointer to a cross, or the text in the lower right of a 3D View Form. If it says anything other than Select on the first line then you have a tool active. You should always be able to deactivate a tool with either the Tools->Deactivate menu or the Escape key. Or you could complete the tool in the normal fashion. Then your menu items should return to normal.
