Animation and modeling

I have Windows vista and what are the good programs that I can model and animate my own characters from scratch. Ive tried Milkshape and no luck.

I also downloaded 3D World Maker trial and I really like it but is it worth 120 bucks. Maya and lightwave is way too expensive.I will have to try Blender and see what i think. Thanks a bunch Tim

Hexagon 2 is a fantastic program, that is sold by Daz 3d. It has many intuitive modelling features, and i use it for buildings, characters -basically everything i model

The program i use is Hexagon 2, which i then export to OBJ so i can import it into ultimate unwrap to uv and texture - then from there to many many different formatsHexagon 2 is a fantastic program, that is sold by Daz 3d. If you want to try something different, here's a few off the top of my head that support the Torque dts format:
- Blender
- Lightwave
- Maya
- 3ds Max
