Has anyone else seen this? world5.monstersgame.co.uk/?ac=vid&vid=59125898 I thought it was interesting as I had picked up a book recently on php game programming and the back half of the book was centered around a browser based, php run MMO. I was considering mixing this php browser based setup with Torque, for a gladiator style game, I guess sort of similar to what Dreamlords did, but not really... the game being a gladiator style melee / magic arena combat with player spectators and challenged battles as well as a ladder style tournament event where the combat is resemblant of a 1st person action rpg. anyhow to simplify the development (I have a small team of 2 :P) I was thinking of having the actual fighting and arena aspects in the torque engines with huge coliseums and whatnot and running the rest off of a web server that would act as the ... RPG parts... the towns, the stores and market place, the chat rooms, the storyline that would announce new tournaments etc...
Anyhow it was all an idea until I saw the book and decided to grab it... then the other day I saw a link to this site on MMORPG.com and decided to check it out... I think it's a cool idea... a browser based MMO that doesnt require a lot of time to play. *shrug* anyhow just wanted to throw it up there and see if anyone else had thought about doing something like this or if they had seen this game etc.
Note: I did sign up to play and test it out, and the link above is my personal hunter link so if you click it don't freak out and think you were duped. I'm telling you up front. ;) Who knows you may even like it... what little I've seen of it so far has given me some inspiration on this idea and I'm starting to think the game idea I described above just might actually be viable :) Thoughts and opinions as well as experience with any type of game like the one linked above are not only encouraged, but appreciated! :)
