Upgrade path from TGE to TGEA?

by David Stocker · in General Discussion · 03/20/2007 (2:20 pm) · 4 replies

I purchased TGE a few months ago and have been getting to know it ever since. At the time, TGEA was still called TSE (actually, it had juuuuuuuust been renamed) and was in its early adopter phase. Since you needed to own TGE to buy TSE, it seemed like there was a natural upgrade path. My plan was to get the feel for the platform on the non-beta version and then migrate.

Since then, the early adopter program has ended. What replaced it surprised me. There is no longer any TGE requirement and the price is the same as if I had bought TGEA+TGE in December. In short, there is no difference if you go directly to TGEA as the price is the same. Is there an upgrade path that I missed? If so, I did not see it on the product page. If not, I now have buyers regret on TGE since I planned to end up on TGEA in the first place.

Tgea is an independent product

the diference i think.. as i might be wrong ..

if you purchased the early adopter ..having tge .. you would get both tge and tgea for 300 dollars
because you paid 150 for tge and 150 for the early adopter.. when tgea was finally released... all the early adopters got the final version of tgea..

so with 300 dollars you have both tge and tgea

there was also an early adopter license that didnt required tge ownership that was at 250 .. when they changed the name from tse to tgea

but now.. tgea costs 300 dollars but.. you only get tgea as far as i know.. so if you ever need normal tge ..you would have to buy it separately.. ( 300 + 150 = 450 )

or if you already have tge .. and was hoping for tgea upgrade.. i think there is no one and you would have to pay the full 300 dollars for it and once again ( 300 + 150 = 450 )

so you can go and buy directly tgea without problems if thats what you are aiming for your projects

hope this helps

Cheers!

Yea they target different clients. TGE is for a wide range of compatibility and maximum stability.

TGEA is a targted at hardware accelerated client machines. And in turn has a higher cost in terms of time and skills.

And look... GG has not always or currently making mega bucks. If you think you wasted your money buying TGE first then go ring that bell over there.. (quitter bell).

Trying to to sound like a mean troll but the price is so low pay it.. bow.. walk backwards and always cherish the gift of code you just received....

Otherwise hit the road jack (little Ray Charles).

Whoah... a quitter? on what grounds? WHO are you to call me a quitter? You don't know me. You don't know what is important to me. You don't know what I'm doing. In short, you are not qualified to evaluate me.

Hey, I have a budget to watch. That extra bit might just fall into the suck it up range for others, but I have to be careful. And anyway, since my work on Torque is parallel to a different platform and I probably don't need TGEA, I'll stick with TGA.

I don't have anything to add to this strangely searing commentary except a quote from Sondheim's revisioning of Aristophanes The Frogs:

Dionysos: I am the god of drama.
Xanthias: I thought you were the god of wine.
Dionysos: That too. A little wine will get you through a lot of drama.
