Yes it could, and it would take a lot of work.

The engine has already been used for one. I personally think this type of game is equivalent in scale to the epic movies such as Ben Hur .. Braveheart .. etc...
It takes a heck of a lot of assets and content to do this type of game justice.

I personally try to avoid this type of project unless the group im with are top notch and know what's realistic.

Do u know of any engines that u would recommend for this sort of project over the torgue engine?

I can't think of any others to recommend right now. TGE is a proven engine, and it has one available MMORPG kit available for sale, with another on the way. Great place to start. . .

Yeah.. no real recommendations.. its hard no matter what engine you use.. ..and there have been a few mmorpgs made with torque already..

I basically just wanted you to be aware of the effort involved. Its not undoable... but it sure aint easy!
Puzzle games, sports games.. heck even Fps's are a lot more realistic to complete in my view.

Multiverse is an engine specifically designed for MMORPGS. Their license seems pretty steep for commercial use. My impression is that Torque gives you a lot more control so if you've got the server building and networking chops (and/or the MMORPG starter kit) then you could get it done.

Minions of Mirth's is probably the most famous Torque mmorpgs made by Prairie Games.

From what I know Prairie Games is a really small company, at least in comparison to
the production team of Ben Hur!!
So I'd suggest that you check out what Josh Ritter (they guy behind Prairie Games)
has written on this site.

Prairie Games and Garage Games have also made this anouncement, that should be
really interesting.
