ShapeReplicator Problem

by Eric Flint · in General Discussion · 02/28/2007 (7:47 pm) · 14 replies

Ok, so I have a few ShapeReplicators setup in this test zone I am working with. Up until today everything worked fine, but now whenever I go to select one of the shapereplicators (from mission list or in the window) TGE just freezes. What would be some possible causes of this?

As of right now it is almost impossible to make a level because I cannot select these replicators. I have tried manually deleting them from the .mis file, but when I go back into TGE and add a new ShapeReplicator it still freezes upon selection. I have not messed with anything related to the replicators.

This is a known bug, noticed on the first day of TGE 1.5 release. I plan on taking a crack at fixing this tomorrow, because I'm tired of not having replicators in my missions as well =)

I'll let you know how it goes, but there is a chance someone may have already fixed this bug. Search the forums and see...

Excellent, thanks for the info. I wonder why it worked fine for a few days though? When I first started messing with 1.5 I could use the replicators just fine.

EDIT:
The replicator can be selected/deselected no prob, it starts messing up once you add a shape/foliage file... weird...

So any news on a fix for this problem?

I know I corrected some bug in the TGEA version that did something similar, I need to dig my code to find out what it was.

Cool, that would be great. It would be nice to see the devs fix their little bug too though.

I've made progress on fixing this bug, and the fix will be ready shortly....except I won't post in here...This is not the right thread for Torque script or engine fixes.

Since it is an engine fix, I'll be posting it in the TGE Private forums.

*EDIT*-There is already a forum thread going about this, and the solution is apparently simple:
1.5 fxShapeReplicator lockup

Oh cool, I tried building the engine again, but it didn't fix. Is there a guide somewhere on compiling in VS 2005? Whenever I build the engine it gives me just a debug version, I am not to great at VC++ and don't know how to do different builds. Thanks for all the info Michael, I will keep an eye of that other thread.

In your target settings (a drop-down that probably reads "Debug"), change it to "Release".

Curious about something, it says you aren't an SDK owner. How are you compiling? Did you just get the SDK today?

If you hop over to the private forums, there are threads there about compiling using VS2K5, as well as on the TDN.

Good luck with everything.

No, my friend is the one that did the actual purchase of TGE. I will have him go on the TDN or the private forums and check it out. Thanks again.

This could be a very big problem for you and your friend. The EULA, license agreement, for the engine states that each person who has access to the source code must purchase the SDK.

I noticed in your other threads that you were thinking about getting the engine, but it seems like you have no other choice now.

Well the thing is he doesn't use the source, only I do. I was told the lisence was per-programmer. So I am the only programmer, he is just somewhat of a "financier". So we didn't think it would be a problem. But if it is against the EULA then I can buy a copy, just wouldn't make to much sense because he doesn't use the source. I do want to keep everything legit though. I will shoot off an email to GG and see what they say. Thanks for bringing this up and all your help thus far :)

Unfortunately, you should have purchased it if you are the programmer since the license for the indie license is linked to HIM and not to YOU. The commercial license is per seat, which allows a programmer to leave the team and the company to retain the license for another programmer on the team.

Yeah, no one thinks you are a hardened software pirate. I brought it up as a warning, to save you future hassles from other community members and GG staff. They'll most likely tell you the same thing, because it's not so much about who is using the source code...it's the fact that two people HAVE access to the source code.

You'll want your own license anyway, since you are obviously the one who will be digging in the tech and requiring private forum access. Something gets lost in translation if you ask others to post for you, so we'll see you in the private forums.

Good luck, again.
