Oldschool SFX (lo-fi arcade style)

Hello all!

For a game I'm planning to make, I'd like to have some oldschool arcade sounds like those found in Neo-Geo games (Metal Slug, ...).
I know I could buy an audio pack from Mojo Audio for example, but I really want to know how I could create sounds like these because I'm really a fan of them :)
I searched on Google but no way to find explainations about making lo-fi arcade sounds (explosions, shots, impacts, ...).

Thx to anyone who could help me!
and sorry for my english if there are some mistakes ;)

The search term I think you are looking for is "foley artist". Probably some others, too.

It's hard, and it takes much skill. I wish I could do it.

Electronic music artists are often very good at it, too. I don't know how they do it, though.

Edit: actually, doing specifically what you are saying isn't too bad. I used to do it all the time in Pilot language. It had stuff built in to do that. Anybody know how one would go about it today?
