Jaw-drop-inducing awe

Hey all...
Wow...
Yeah, I'm new here. I wasn't sure if this was the appropriate place to post an introduction post, but there is a precedence - I saw someone else post a "hey I'm new" thing on here, so I thought I'd follow suit :D
I'm a student at South Eugene High School, I'm in my Junior year. I thought I'd join the forum community, look around, maybe throw some ideas around but mostly get a feel for GG's community and the people in it. I am highly interested in the entertainment industry, as I will be delving into not only video game development, but also film and literature. This place is fascinating, and I hope to meet some of you and get to know you better. Maybe a possibility of working together someday, eh?
Anyway, I thought I'd just pad around the site for a bit. Hope to talk with you all some more.
My name is Jacob Nicholson, but all my friends call me Kouga. (Don't ask, it's a long story, and I forgot most of it anyway)

On a side note, do you know why there are \'s on my name... There aren't any on yours.
So, any tips on where to start, or how best to assimilate myself into the community?

Thanks - nice to hear some encouragement. People always seem to think I don't stand a chance trying to enter multiple disciplines, despite how much they can overlap. On a side note, do you know why there are \'s on my name... There aren't any on yours.

I did that for a few years before interning at GG and it helped immensely. And, that way you don't end up looking like a fool as some newcomers do ;)

The best way to assimilate and get a feel for the community is to come to the site, click community, and read all the new blogs and dev snap shots. There are usually 6 or so a day - and people post their opinions and thoughts. You'll soon now the big names, the talkative employees, and the crazy people ;)I did that for a few years before interning at GG and it helped immensely. It's nice to hear that you've got a focus on games and film and lit; all three are wonderfully complementary disciplines. If more game developers had training in film-making or narrative, the average game quality today would be substantially better. =)
