can i do my own thing to the engine?

i want to buy the torque engine and will do so soon but i would also like to add my own stuff to it as well, one of the things id like to ad is real shadows ingame, nothing as advanced as doom3's but real shadows none the less. but my question is will i be able to mess around with the torque engine code to add this into my game?

If you buy a Torque license, you get the full source to the engine and can make any changes to it that you want. That's the beauty of buying the license!

Is there someting wrong with the shadows already created by Torque ?

theres nothing 'wrong' with is but the first game i plan on making will be a horror fps kinda like undying so shadows will help make the mood of my game and ive played only a couple of hours of t2 and the shadows werent that impressive, does any engine out now have realistic shadows?

I'm not sure if its only specific to that level, but the test level provided with torque (the one with the big letters for texture) has pretty bad shadows. The building shadows look blocky. Granted, I haven't played around with the scenegraph, lighting or shadows.
