Tge To Tgea

by Richard Preziosi · in General Discussion · 02/17/2007 (7:34 pm) · 2 replies

I was just curious, because I have been hearing that TGEA handles a lot of things differently than TGE. If i decide to upgrade to TGEA at a later time, will I be able to have my game that I am building in TGE basically work, or will I have to basically redo most of it? And if so, what kinds of things will carry over, so I can just focus on those things, whether they be GUI or maps, etc. Thanks.

I ported to it and back again, and it was not too bad. Mind you, if you're talking about a finished game with a million little details, it would be a real effort, but nothing like going to a whole new engine or anything.

TGE and TGEA share an awful lot, and the scripts that run the game are very similar. Materials are handled differently (of course) and so there is some additional development to be done in TGEA, but this is mostly a pleasure. Terrain is different, but easier, as are waterblocks.

And probably a lot of other stuff. But it identical to use in far more ways than it is different.

Thanks Lee, I was just seeing a lot of threads saying things worked in TGE but didnt' when they switched to TGEA, so I wasn't sure how bad it was going to be and was going to just stop using it until I got the money, but I know how, thanks.
