Book on online marketing/PR

by Alexander V Zubov · in General Discussion · 02/17/2007 (1:18 pm) · 5 replies

Could somebody please recommend any good books on marketing/PR for games (online marketing/PR in particular)? I would like to sell my game through my website, besides selling it through online portals/GG ;)
So I need to read up on it to have some ideas, know some techniques.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, Alexander.

Sorry for the delay... I don't know of any books for marketing a game online.

What you need to do is, setup your site: providing a way for people to buy and download your game.
(also provide a link to a demo)

Then start contacting gaming websites telling them about your game... provide them with links to screenshots, videos and any other media files.
(if the site offers demo downloads, ask them to mirror your demo)

If the sites like the look of the game, they will request a full copy of it to review.
A lot of people from gaming mags keep an eye on gaming sites for new games... if the mag people like it, they will email you for more info/review game.

Hope it helps... any questions, please let me know.

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for the input. I have one question. Do gaming sites require payment for placing demo on their web site, for placing reviews, etc. ?

No.
Sites such as Gamershell, 3D gamers, filefront etc don't charge to put demos on the site. (I think only download.com charges... but that site is mainly for apps)

Sites shouldn't charge to do reviews (they only have to like the game to do a review) it just costs you a copy of the game. (you might also have to keep on to them to review it)
If you find a site that wants you to pay them to review your game... just say "thanks but no thanks"
