TGEA 1.0 crashing from new install

by Justin Mosiman · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 02/15/2007 (4:05 pm) · 7 replies

Hi,

When I start TGEA.exe from a brand new install, I am getting the error window saying TGEA.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. In console.log, it stops at
Executing common/client/actionMap.cs.
with no errors. Any idea what could be causing this? I had MS4.0 working correctly, then when 1.0 came out I decided to update. I installed 1.0 on a different computer and it worked fine, so I know that it's not a global problem.. it's just the computer that isn't working is my main development computer.

Thanks,
Justin

Are you running the executable that comes with the download or are you building it in Visual Studio. If your building it, make sure your not using the Dec 2006 DirectX SDK because the compiler doesn't support pixel shaders 1.0, and it will cause your game to crash. Otherwise build it in VS in debug mode and see where it breaks.

I am just running the executable that comes with the download, I haven't even tried loading it in VS yet.

Thanks

Have you tried uninstall/reinstall, redownload? Can you give more details on the computer you are trying to run it on?

I have tried to uninstall/reinstall, and I re-downloaded. I transfered the exe from the machine that worked over to the one that didn't work and it still didn't change anything.

The machine that it isn't working on has the following specs:
2x amd mp 2200+
GeForce FX 5900
1.5GB RAM
DirectX 9.0c

This system is getting a little dated, but it ran MS4.0 fine. The system that I transfered the exe to was an IBM ThinkPad T42, so out of the two, I would have expected the ThinkPad not to run it.

I just reinstalled directx and now it works. I wonder what happened to directx.. oh well, it works now.

Thanks for the help.

I have the same problem here.
This is an Apple iMac running bootcamp and XP home.

I'll reinstall Direct X and report if it has been solved or not.

Edit: Reinstalling Direct X fixed the problem.
Can't wait to have an Open GL version of it (TGEA, not Direct X). 8-P
