Boating on the open desert

I was just messing around, trying to make a .dts for the opening sequence of my game. I'm pretty sure I won't use this (it wasn't based on any sketches or references and the railings continue to have SORT :: problems, but you know), but figured I'd show it off anyway:

Comments and crits are welcome.

EDIT: Oh, and the bottom is blue because I've found I've been having intersection problems with the water on my level, so I just put a separate texture on the bottom and made the line where the water line is.

OTHER EDIT: For all the tech information, it's 280 polys, and uses 7 textures, 6 of which are 256x256 and one 512x512. And no, I haven't tried recreating that scene from Troy yet, where all the boats are crossing the sea.

Needs water :)
Maybe add a motif to the sails, and a cannon, yeah I like cannons

I think it looks pretty amazing, but that might be because I'm just learning blender and the most complex thing I have made is a crude dagger. Maybe make the railings a bit less 2D feeling and it will look great.

Yah, I know how you mean. Truth be told, this is the first time I've ever really tried to limit my polycount on a model...so even if you go by tris, 560 ain't bad. I know there's quite a bit of room for improvements (if you look at it close up, the ropes aren't even attached to anything...they just kind of float there), but I think it would be better for me to start over. The scale issues are off, and there are several details I would like to add such as an actual way to get inside the cabin besides the current 'there's a secret trapdoor you can't see, ahem' ... not to mention using references. My final goal is to make something worthy of the opening scene to the game...

But right now, this will do as a place holder. Since in the scene you don't actually spend time on deck, it just cuts to the inside, this will be fine. However, now that I have an idea of what I can do with a given polycount, I will take these suggestions into account and will still be glad to hear any others.
