Have path movements active while in editor mode?

In more than one occasion, I've had a particle effect that is meant to be in motion, primarily along a path or maybe attached to a moving object. As best I can tell, there is not way to make any path movements or object movements active while in 'Editor Mode'. Is there perhaps something I'm missing here... some way I could attach a particle emitter to a path and then have it move along that path while in the editor so I can edit in without needing to make a change and constantly go back/forth between the editor and game mode to tweak?
