Which version of Hammer are you using? Make sure that your export is set to Valve220. I think that the new version allows for content on the older engine rather than simply Source, but am not sure.

Try Files > Export to Map

Then run the map through map2dif_plus.

Plus, you should e-mail Valve and get written confirmation that your team can use Hammer with Torque.

Contact Valve

I would look at the Mods and SDK contact and ask there. You should note what your project is, your development experience, that you are using the Torque Game Engine, and request permission to use their editor without licensing fees.

EDIT:
(or at least see what the licensing fees are)

Why would he have to contact Valve? They've told GG that we can use Hammer for Torque products. Or has that changed and I missed it? *scurries to remove Hammer if it has changed*

Edit: Typo

@Chip It was verbal, never updated and written into the EULA. Not safe to use imo.

There are several threads on "is it legal to user hammer for TGE?" as well as plans. Specifically Plan for Ronald J. Yacketta which has a quote of an e-mail saying "no you can't" where the thread Topic: Hammer Illegal? The Quest to find out :) has an email saying "its ok".

Also Matt Fairfax Employee states the case very well. Specifically:
Quote:
Because of the lack of clarity in the legal standing of this issue, GG can not officially support or recommend that you use Hammer.

Figures. Thanks guys for the clearing that up for me. I had been going by what was posted long ago.

Oh well, time to start learning 3D World Studio again.

Well is there any other half decent level program that is free and fully functional besides Quark? I have issues with adding textures to my levels in quark. How can valve tell if u have used their product? when its all exported to dts or w/e that format is for entiors

@Brian
Because there are so many editors out there. Plus, you've stated publicly that you're using it. Plus, a cursory look at the map file headers should let them know. You can strip that information, but then you can also pirate Torque and Max as well to make your game. Or Source, for that matter. But I wouldn't recommend it if you want to be seen as a legit developer.

In reality, since 99.9% of projects fail before any significant work gets done on them, Valve may not even care. But I wouldn't want to stake my lawyer dollars against Gabe's. Especially when the EULA that you agreed to when installing it defines exactly how you can use it. Which requires special permission to use it for a non-Half-Life game. They purchased WorldCraft and have put a lot of dollars into Hammer as an editor. They have the right to determine how it should be used.

You could always try Radiant. It is released under the GPL. I'm not sure if anyone other than Josh Ritter has gotten it set up for Torque, however.

What are you texture issues with QuArK?

@Chip
Yeah. It comes down to the assumption of blanket permission (which has been going on with Hammer for quite some time) versus individual permission. You may very well be able to contact Valve and obtain personal permission to use it for your project, but that does not entail anyone else permission to use it. It's like the guy a while back who got permission from Daz3D to use their assets as long as he protected them. Suddenly people were coming out of the woodwork with assumptions that they too could use them.

It never hurts to ask, though. Especially if you have some screenshots of what you've been working on.

There is no Torque option out of the box. You will need to set it up to use Torque. That's why I said that I didn't know if anyone other than Josh had gone through the process.

EDIT:
You will need to save the .map file and use the -q3 (I think that is the option in Map2DIF_Plus) option when compiling your DIF.
