Should AI vehicle act differently when selected?

Hello,
I have AI's driving vehicles on some fairly intricate paths. What is strange is that when the I select the vehicle in the World Editor Inspector, they will follow the paths a bit differently, sometimes even failing to make it around a tight turn, for example. I'm selecting it via the Inspector tree, so I presume it shouldn't be "nudged" or anything?
The reason I ask is because for a while I thought I was losing my mind, running the exact same mission twice in a row and getting different results! I just like to think that I'm not crazy, but more importantly that I should be able to get reliable path-following if I understand what's going on. Should the act of selection change anything?
Or am I nuts? :)
